A new rule by Indian Railways could make a lot of things easier for travellers. Now, if you happen to hold a confirmed reservation ticket, then you have the option to transfer to another person, including members of your family. This all new IRCTC ticket booking advantage can be used by those who have reserved tickets and for some reason are unable to travel.

There are certain rules put in place in order to avail this advantage. According to a statement released by the Indian Railways, “Chief Reservation Supervisor of important stations are authorised by Railway Administration to permit the change of name of a passenger having a seat or berth reserved in his name.”

Yet another rule says that if the passenger happens to be a government employee travelling on duty, he or she should make written request 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of train. A person is permitted to do this train ticket transfer to his or her family members, including father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, and wife; the request for the same needs to be made in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure.

Students of recognised institutes need to get a written request from the head of the institution 48 hours before the scheduled departure. The reservation can be transferred from one student to another. Those passengers, who are members of a marriage party, should get written request from the head of the group before the scheduled departure of the train.

The facility of IRCTC train ticket transfer has also been extended to cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC). The officer who is head of the group needs to put in a written request 24 hours before the scheduled departure.

For groups, such as NCC cadets, students, and marriage party, request in excess of 10 percent of the total group strength will not be accepted. Also, for individuals, this requested shall be granted just once.
